UPDATE: We were invited back to Spur Rondebosch, to give them another chance. The experience this time was a complete turnaround. Andre made us feel most welcome and the service was excellent. Whilst certain foods still need some improvement compared to other Spurs..the overall experience was far better. We'll be back again for the kids parties. Thank you Andre. Had a really displeasing evening with our family and baby tonight. It took almost 30 minutes for our waiter to introduce himself and a series of mistakes followed from there. The food arrived cold, the plate was dirty with old oil, our parents cheesy prawm steaks were missing the cheesy prawns and we only received cutlery after we asked for it. Also, they replaced the original spur birthday song with something else that goes on forever and is incredibly loud. What made it even more disappointing is that it was supposed to be a thank you dinner for our parents before they return home to the Eastern Cape. Won't be back...lastly, hot veg was cold and old non-creamy spinach with no garlic baby potatoes like other Spurs

It was superb! It was up to our expectations

My friend and I went there for lunch. The waitress took us away from where we were sitting because she thought it was too draughty where we were. I asked her for a quiet spot because I don't hear well if it's noisy. We were taken to a quiet corner. According to my till slip it was Tamara who looked after us. To be honest I never looked at her name badge. All I can say is that we were well looked after. My only complaint (not fault of restaurant) is that calamari strips are no longer on the seniors menu. It's been replaced by tentacles and chewy tubes.

This is by FAR the best Spur I have been to. And I love spur in general. Zenande was a calm and friendly waitress. Truly had the best lunch here. The onion rings weren’t oily but crispy and all the food was PERFECT!!

5 Stars – A Truly Special Experience! What an amazing experience at Golden Spur in Rondebosch! The waiters and staff were absolutely incredible—so friendly, warm, and professional. As someone who no longer lives in South Africa and was hosting international guests, I have to say I felt genuinely proud. Spur has always been a symbol of South African culture, which is exactly why we chose to come here—and you did not disappoint. I had my childhood birthday parties at Spur for years, so being able to host one for Kiki now was incredibly special and nostalgic. A special shout-out to the lead manager (his name escapes me!)—he was truly world-class and made sure everything ran smoothly. Thank you, Golden Spur, for making this such a memorable occasion for all of us!

Its sad that probably the best Spur that there ever was has been closed. Why did the Spur Corporation not do anything? I remember when I was 5 years old we went to this Spur in Dean Street. The salad valley was delicious and amazing. The burgers with their sauces excellent (loved the whizz sauce). Then forward a few years and I was at school and the golden spur was selling burgers for lunch or sponsored the school teams. It was also nice to pop in for some lunch between end of school and sport starting or if we had late events at the school. It was really the most community orientated and all the school kids from the area loved it. And then forward a few more years and after school it was the perfect spot to go when there was rugby or cricket at Newlands. I dont understand why they moved 3x between the different buildings but they were always popular. Maybe with rugby at Newlands now down the drain it wont bode well but it was still a community restaurant through the ages. Now all the new rugby goers will look forward to at Cape Town stadium is Mcdonalds. But for the Cricket fans and the schools in the area that Golden Spur has supported and been there for, they will be sorely missed. Ive been there many times and since I was 5 I cant think of not having been there at least twice a year if not lots more. The Spur Corporation should have really done something to prevent the closure and keep it as the flagship branch. Are we not to assume that its all about profits at the Spur and not little about community. When I waitered at the Rondebosch Spur in my matric years I learnt that 80% of Spur clients are regulars from the community. Its a sad day indeed.

very busy after rugby but the food and the service were still brilliant!

Good food with a variety of choice on the menu. It was very busy when we went as The Stormers had just finished their game, this could be the reason that the service was not up to scratch, a bit slow, we had to call the waiter/ waitress over several times. We enjoyed our food when we eventually got it, my steak was more rare than medium rare as asked for but it still tasted good.

Service and food quality is excellent

Had lunch with my colleague and what a surprise, as we initially had another place in mind. The service from a trainee waiter was very good and attentive. We enjoyed the rib special, and we really enjoyed it. Will be back, I've drove past this spur as the parking in the area is a challenge to say the least. But it's worth it.

I have been going to the Spur ever since they first opened. A great restaurant for families with kids. One thing you can say about the Spur is that they are consistent, their food is the same everywhere. Big portions of well cooked and hot food ranging from Viennas and chips for the kids to steaks and ribs for Dads and many dishes of Burgers, Mexican, salads and loads more. Our visit last Saturday was great, we sat near the children's play area, which was pretty noisy but that is to be expected. The prices are competitive to other family restaurants but there is something about the Spur which makes it unique. Is it the cow skin benches, Red Indian decor or just the happy atmosphere. The staff were wonderful, attentive and on the ball. Even the lady who looks after the children in the play area was fantastic. Keep going Spur, you are now an institution in South Africa and fill a big gap in the restaurant market for families and grandparents alike.

Last Spur in Capetown for us on our trip. I asked the waitress to make the best Bar one shake she has ever made and she did! It was unbelievable. There must have been a whole bar one in there! Delicious. The spur burger was also fantastic!

The Spur are still the best famlily restaurant. Here you still get value for money. The staff are very friendly and the service good. The stake i orderd was perfectly done. Will recommend it for eat out
